July 1, 2017, the International African Arts Festival will be hosting its 28th annual Symposium at PS 287, located at 50 Navy St., Brooklyn, across the street from the International African Arts Festival. The symposium’s mission is to bring awareness to issues and challenges that African-Americans face in their communities through conversations with educators, activists and intellectuals. During this event, panelists will speak about community issues. State Sen. Kevin S. Parker, Professor James Phillips, Dr. Shadidi Beatrice Kinsey, Roger Green, Michael R. Duncan and others will be on the panel. There will also be a showing of the film “Kemitiyu.” “Kemitiyu” is a film about the life of Cheikh Anta Diop, who was an intellectual, scholar, historian and physicist. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students with IDs.
