August saw National Action Network leaders and activists taking over street corners to highlight anti-violence in certain inner city areas. NAN’s Minister Kirsten John Foy, NE Regional Director; the Rev. Kevin McCall, National Crisis Director; and the NAN Youth Huddle joined local activists in the action.
From Aug. 9 to Aug. 15, 2018, there were rallies and marches on 107th Avenue and 159th Street in Jamaica; Mother Gatson Boulevard and Belmont Avenue, Cypress Hills Projects, in Brooklyn; Manhattan Polo Grounds; Jersey Street and Winter Avenue on Staten Island; and Tompkinsville Park on Staten Island.
NAN leaders marched from each location simultaneously at 7 p.m. in each respective borough, and slept in the streets overnight to raise awareness about the growing threat of violence throughout New York City.
