Singer John Legend makes history with his win at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards taking home an honor in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category for his work as producer in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. He now has Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards officially making him the first Black man to reach EGOT status winning all major awards competitively.

Legend has 10 Grammy Awards for his various albums and songs, an Oscar for Best Original Song from the 2015 film Glory and a Tony Award for his work as co-producer for the revival of the play Jitney in 2017.

Only 15 people have reached EGOT status including three other Black men. James Earl Jones, Quincy Jones and Harry Belafonte have earned all four awards in various non-competitive categories.
