This month is filled with a good deal of dance to help close out the summer days. Headlining this month’s calendar is the exquisite, Hoofer Award-winning tap dancer Ayodele Casel, Sept. 24-29 at The Joyce Theater. Casel joins forces with six-time Grammy Award winner Arturo O’Farrill for a world premiere that will bring to life their “…shared musical lexicon in Afro-Latin jazz.” Known for “…honoring artists who have paved the way for her work and moving the artform to new,” Casel, with pianist, composer and educator O’Farrill, will also be joined by an ensemble of tap dancers and musicians which promises to an exploration of salsa, rhumba, danzón, modal jazz and stride piano. Sept. 7—Mount Tremper continues their summer of promise to support more than 25 artists working in a variety of disciplines for their 2019 Watershed Lab.
