Downtown Brooklyn was the location for the Signature Kente Fest Brunch and Akwaaba Reception & Networking co-sponsored by Jerry Kobe Adinkra, host of the “Good Morning Diaspora Radio Show,” and the Chamber Coalition (26 Court Street). Pushing the “New African Story,” the guest of honor was Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority/Year of Return secretariat. Everything involving relocation, business, real estate investment, and economic opportunity was touched upon. Speaking to what he referred to as the “global African family,” Agyeman enthusiastically discussed:
updates on the Year of Return 2019—and Beyond.
the upcoming Kentefest NYC & Africa Investment & Business Summit 2020
increasing the promotion of Ghana tourism
the future of tourism investment opportunities in Ghana
the future of trade between Ghana and the USA and much more
“The African story needs to change,” Agyeman said. “Through a new narrative, with branding, marketing and tourism can be a game-changer as a catalyst,” to welcome people to Ghana. Agyeman highlighted incentives such as the Rites of Abode citizenship drive, birth rite ceremonies, and easier travel options.
“It was a great opportunity for all people of the African diaspora to fellowship together,” said Adinkra, stating that it was one of many upcoming “great events with amazing Ghanian food, good people and great conversation.”
Attendees enjoyed great networking, informative conversation and tasty home-cooked jolloff and chicken and light refreshments.
