I am at a loss for words this week…this all just feels surreal to me. I know we, as a collective newspaper, are sending love and prayers to our community and beyond.

In the wake of the unprecedented emergency impacting the country due to coronavirus (COVID-19), Red Rooster Harlem, with Marcus Samuelsson and Andrew Chapman, the restaurants’ co-owners, are partnering with World Central Kitchen to provide meals to those in need.

“Now, more than ever, we need to come together to support everyone in our community to combat food insecurity in the midst of this crisis. As we have learned from our 10 years serving this neighborhood and my past 5 years as the co-founder of Harlem EatUp! with our main beneficiary Citymeals, there are a tremendous number of food insecure people in our community under the best of circumstances. That is why Red Rooster Harlem is doing its part to serve as a food hub, supporting incredible partners like World Central Kitchen to safely provide meals in this extraordinary time of need,” shared Marcus Samuelsson, chef/co-owner of Red Rooster Harlem.

The Community Food Hub will be active through this Saturday, March 28, opening daily at noon until all meals are distributed. Thereafter, and for the foreseeable future, the Community Food Hub will be open Mondays through Fridays, noon, until all meals are distributed.

Red Rooster Harlem is located at 310 Lenox Avenue. Be sure to continue to practice social distancing, six feet apart, be patient and help your fellow neighbor that might not be able to help themselves.

World Central Kitchen’s COVID-19 Relief Efforts

World Central Kitchen, through its #ChefsForAmerica response to the current crisis, is taking action with a multi-pronged approach. We’re already distributing thousands of fresh, individually packaged grab-and-go meals to local families in NYC, Little Rock, Arkansas and Oakland, California as well as expanding in the coming days to Los Angeles, Seattle, and Washington, DC. Second, there is incredible work going on across America to feed students, seniors, and vulnerable communities. We are mapping out all of the school districts, restaurants, and organizations working to keep people fed. And we are beginning to create a network of #ChefsForAmerica Community Kitchens across the country that will offer affordable or free meals to families in need of support.
