Dreamgirls” is coming back to Broadway in fall 2026, and there is currently an open casting call to find the next members of the “Dreams” all-girl singing group. If that was not exciting enough, the beloved musical will have choreography and direction by one of Broadway’s best talents, Camille A. Brown, whose masterful choreography is currently being displayed in the Broadway hit “Hell’s Kitchen.” She also choreographed the recent Broadway smash, “Gypsy” and other Broadway productions, including “Once On This Island,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “Choir Boy,” and the phenomenal 2022 revival of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf,” which was also directed by Brown.

“Dreamgirls” is best known for the tremendous hit songs, “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going)” and “I Am Changing,” alongside countless other incredible songs and stellar performance moments. This musical features music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen. This musical also launched the career of Tony-winner Jennifer Holliday in 1981 in the role of Effie, and the movie version in 2006 made Jennifer Hudson an Academy Award winner. The theater production that starred Holliday also featured Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine. The movie version that rocketed Hudson’s career featured the phenomenal Beyoncé and Anika Noni Rose.

This upcoming production will be produced by LaChanze Productions, along with Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, and John Johnson. LaChanze Productions has a very impressive list of Black shows on Broadway, including “Buena Vista Social Club,” which is still electrifying Broadway houses, the extended drama “Purpose,” “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” and “Topdog/Underdog.” The producers are holding open calls asking for “talented women of all shapes and sizes.” Auditions will be held in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, London, Toronto, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Rome, and Paris.
