On February 13, just one day before Valentine’s Day, hitmakers New Edition will be joined by Philadelphia soul icons Boys II Men and renowned singer Toni Braxton for an evening of smooth rhythm & blues.
The all-star lineup will stop at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., as part of the New Edition Way tour, which kicked off on January 28 in Oakland, Calif. The tour name is an homage to the recent re-naming of a street in Boston after the iconic soul group that produced hits “Can You Stand the Rain” and “If It Isn’t Love,” and launched successful solo careers for members like Bobby Brown and Johnny Gill, as well as offshoot groups like Bell Biv Devoe, well known for the 1990 hit “Poison.”
The show will feature a career-spanning set of hits that will include songs by each group, solo selects, and cross-artist collaborations on a 360-degree stage. “This landmark event celebrates music, legacy, and connection,” according to the Prudential Center website. “Together, these artists have sold over 100 million albums, earned dozens of major music awards, and continued to shape the sound and culture of pop and R&B for generations to come.”
The event is presented by the Black Promoters Collective (BPC), “a collating of six of the nation’s top independent concert promotion and event companies,” as described on their website. The group is “rooted in cultural integrity and social consciousness.”
