“Mr. Rajkumar brings a wealth of experience to Metropolitan, with nearly 30 years of experience managing health care operations,” said Raju. “He has invaluable experience in delivering quality care to patients in urban settings, as well as a passion for serving those who are most vulnerable or have difficulty accessing medical care. I am confident he will bring the same level of excellence and leadership to his new role as executive director.”

“I am very excited to be leading Metropolitan Hospital Center during this dynamic and transformative moment in health care,” said Rajkumar. “I am committed to working closely with our staff and community to provide the best quality care and address the health care needs of our patients and their families. Our goal is to make Metropolitan the community hospital of choice for our neighbors in East Harlem and beyond.

“We aim to improve the health outcomes of our community by providing high quality ambulatory and inpatient care and health education at the hospital and throughout the neighborhoods we serve.”

Prior to joining HHC Metropolitan Hospital, Rajkumar served as the chief operating officer at HHC North Central Bronx Hospital, where he was instrumental in the restoration of labor and delivery services to the facility. He previously worked as chief business officer at the Cook County Hospital System in Chicago. In this capacity, he was responsible for the provision of non-clinical services to support the system’s inpatient, outpatient and managed care business units and successfully streamlined and improved operations at all levels of the organization.

For the roughly 25 years Rajkumar was at HHC prior to his tenure at CCHS, he held a series of positions of increasing responsibility, including acting chief operating officer at HHC Kings County Hospital Center, deputy executive director for operations and support services at Kings County, senior associate executive director at HHC Queens Hospital Center, and on-site administrator for the HHC East New York Diagnostic & Treatment Center.

Rajkumar holds a Master of Science in health services management and policy from the New School and a Bachelor of Science from Regents College.
