The unethical treatment of Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress (39766)
The unethical treatment of Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress (39765)

We commend National Football league Commissioner Roger Goodell for reinstating Michael Vick. However, we don’t agree with the commissioner if Vick signs with an NFL team and is permitted to participate in that team’s training camp, in addition to being permitted to play in two exhibition games, and then sit out until the sixth week of the season. How many teams would be willing to sign Vick under those conditions?

If the commissioner after meeting with Vick was confident enough to conditionally reinstate him, why did he tag him with additional conditions, as we noted? This may well turn out to be another year without an opportunity to return to the playing field for Vick. The scenario: Vick goes through a training camp, suits up for two games, then sits out five weeks.

Why are they doing this to him? He has admitted how wrong he was. He served his 23-month prison term without incident. Why these up-and-down conditions? Are they trying to strip him of his manhood? They’ve taken all of his money. What else do they want? Do they want him to get on his knees and beg? When will all this end?

PLAXICO BURRESS

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau is leaving office with his gun cocked and dead-set on going out in a blaze of glory, unfortunately for Plaxico Burress. The 84-year-old Morgenthau is using Burress to seal his legendary 34-year career. Talk about unethical conduct?

Publicly stating, “We’ve always taken the position he’s (Burress) going to have to go to jail.” Morgy one-upped Mayor Bloomberg, who, when hearing about Burress, stated, “He should be punished to the full extent of the law.” Why did two of the city’s highest-profile politicians utter such words before the case went to the grand jury yesterday (Wednesday)? This we know: Over 400 individuals were arrested for illegal possession of a firearm. None faced a grand jury and none went to jail. Burress is the victim of selective prosecution. The mayor and DA should be cited for “unethical conduct by a public official.”
