For spring/summer ’13, the look is soft, cool, young and pretty. Prints are flowing. The fit is loose yet somewhat close to the body. Lengths may vary. For the day, short, above-the-knee skirts and dresses are best. For the night, longer lengths take you anywhere. This summer is all about the colors you wear, too.
This season, TV personality Whitney Eve Port introduced a contemporary collection that featured an array of silhouettes. Her convertible dresses can move you from day to evening. There are some menswear-inspired looks that are complemented with alluring colors and exclusive patterns. Her sleeveless, tuxedo-styled jackets worked well with skirts or pants. She custom-creates her own prints and patterns. The Whitney Eve line, launched by Port in 2008, shows off her girlie nature.
Port grew up in Los Angeles, and she has also lived in Manhattan. Her clothes show off a fashion fusion of California style and the sophistication of New York City life. While working in various fields, Port discovered her interest in fashion and her calling to become a designer. Today, her looks exhibit a presence of grace and distinction in the fashion industry and are also worn by several Hollywood trendsetters, including Heidi Klum, Paris and Nicky Hilton, and Kim and Kourtney Kardashian.
Here’s some “Project Runway” news. There is no “T” in “team,” but there is fashion! For season 11, there was a new twist that threw all 16 design talents into a frenzy. These unsung, eager designers were participants in the series’ first-ever “Team Edition.” This season, the controversial team challenges were taken to a whole new level; designers were utterly surprised when they were told they had to work together for every challenge. They were still expected to ensure that their own garments would stand out on the runway to judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia of Marie Claire and featured judge, award-winning fashion designer Zac Posen.
This game-changing element pushed designers to work collaboratively. Once again, Tim Gunn served as the mentor to the designers as they creatively sewed their way to New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Michael Kors was also a finale guest.
