O.J Simpson during his trial (77897)

It has been twenty years since the murder of O.J Simpson’s wife Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Several people remember the trial like it was yesterday. The low-speed Bronco car chase, the defense and prosecution team, the “If the glove does not fit, you must acquit.” phrase by Johnnie Cochran, and the verdict.

What makes this case so memorable? The trial was the most publicized trial in American history. It became known as the “trial of the century” with millions tuning in to watch the trial that was on television around the clock. But beyond that, O.J Simpson was a high profile actor and a well loved, retired NFL player. He was at the peak of his career.

The nation was deeply divided on the verdict, especially along racial lines. Many African Americans believed that Simpson was put on trial simply because he is black while many white Americans believed the evidence disproved his innocence. Regardless, it remains a time in history that people will never forget.
