June is National Safety Month and in commemoration of the occasion Wallethub did a the study comparing how secure the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Using 26 metrics, the study ranks workplace safety, emergency preparedness, home and community stability, traffic safety, and financial security. According to Wallethub the purpose of the study is to allow families and individuals to be better prepared when considering where to move.
The safety conditions for New York varies from category to category. It ranks 45 in public hospital ratings, 34 in number of climate disasters (over 1 billion in damage), 12 in fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, and 28 in employer health insurance coverage rates. Those are just a few of the many results tallied in the sites data.
New York’s overall ranking is 10. Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Minnesota are the three States top the list in the security rankings. Rounding out the bottom three are Tennessee, Arkansas, and Nevada.
What the infographic doesn’t show are individual job to job comparisons. Instead it lumps every job within the state together than tallies the results.
