Special to the AmNews
The Big Apple Circus is back at Lincoln Center, and it’s a delightful family experience. The performers take you through many times and places around the world with a show called “The Grand Tour.” Familiar and engaging Ringmaster John Kennedy Kane is back, and as it does every year, his immense smile brightens the room. His love for the circus and the children comes across in his warm demeanor. Joel Jeske and Brent McBeth, two very funny clowns, will have you and the kiddies laughing out loud.
The acts this year are dazzling and include the talents of Chiara Anastasini, who does an act with hula hoops you have to see to believe, whipping them around on so many parts of her body at the same time. Alexander Koblikov does a splendid juggling act with simplicity and a quiet elegance, displaying his talent in a matter-of-fact and engaging way.
Jenny Vidbel and Emily McGuire have the cutest dog act. The dogs are a pleasure to watch, as they excitedly ride scooters and jump over bars. Energy Trio are three young Asian men who are able to bend and balance on each other in ways you couldn’t begin to imagine. Brothers Eric and Jayson Dominaguez take their chances as they run, jump and jump rope inside of and on top of two enormous spinning wheels. The Zuma Zuma Troupe of African acrobats came out tumbling, flipping and jumping, followed by a sexy aerialist named Sergey Akimov, who wrapped himself up in aerial straps and made some very riveting moves. The Dosov Trouple worked with the teeterboard and performed flips on top of flips.
The Big Apple Circus is there to entertain and thrill the kids, and this year that thrill includes $10 pony rides at intermission. So come financially prepared if that’s an additional thing you want the young person with you to experience.
