A year after NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia was gunned down in the line of duty, her legacy was remembered with a candelight vigil at midnight then a prayer service Thursday morning followed by a street renaming in her honor.
Familia was sitting in a marked, RV-like command post shortly after midnight on July 5, 2017, as Fourth of July festivities were ending when, police said, Alexander Bonds fired a single shot into the vehicle, killing the 12-year veteran of the police force.
