High school juniors and seniors will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in the cruise industry this summer through a new paid internship offered by Intercruises Shoreside & Port Services in partnership with Carnival Cruise Line.
Known as the Carnival ‘Fun-ternship’ Program, the initiative is designed for rising juniors and seniors throughout the greater NYC area who are at least 17 years old and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Applicants must submit a completed application, a letter of good standing, a resume, and a cover letter. Selected students will also participate in an interview as part of the final decision process.
This summer marks the first year of the internship program and will welcome between 15 to 20 interns for a six-week program where they will work directly with the port guest services team. Interns will support the embarkation and debarkation process as guests board and leave Carnival ships — without traveling on the ships themselves.
Interns will earn $20 an hour while gaining behind-the-scenes exposure to port operations. They will also receive training and mentorship from Carnival employees, along with access to exclusive opportunities such as cruise ship tours and “lunch and learn” sessions aimed at career exploration.
“This will be more than just a unique, fun summer job,” said David Candib, vice president of Port Operations at Carnival Cruise Line. “It will be an opportunity for young people to develop professional skills, build confidence and leadership abilities, and gain experience in a part of the travel industry that directly impacts their community’s economy.”
Applications are due by May 1, and organizers encourage students to apply as soon as possible, as space is limited.
