Any attempt to comprehend the motives and thinking of Donald Trump is a fool’s errand. To pursue the inner sanctum of his thoughts is a dead-end journey — a quest like another Don, this one Quixote.

Rather than righting wrongs like the protagonist of Cervantes’s great novel, Trump is wronging rights, and where the knight-errant mistook windmills for giants, our so-called leader has fallen prey to an overpowering dose of narcissism. Fortunately, a U.S. District judge has recognized this deficiency and blocked his desire to rename the Kennedy Center for himself. Workers have removed his name, although a huge tarp covers the area where it was placed on the building. Then, as perhaps a way to distract visitors from the embarrassment, he went ahead with a planned series of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bouts on the White House Lawn on June 14 to celebrate his 80th birthday.

One would have to be just emerging from under a rock not to see the connection between his hosting of UFC events and Linda McMahon, his secretary of education, who co-founded World Wrestling Entertainment with her husband, Vince. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see how the dots connect.

UFC could very well stand for Ultimate Financial Crisis, and Sen. Cory Booker has been the most vocal of elected officials in condemning Trump’s economic policies, particularly the resulting inflation and soaring living costs. He wasted no time in assailing Trump when he said how much he “loved” inflation.

Booker has also made it clear how Trump’s tariffs have affected independent farmers in the nation. We don’t hear enough about the devastation he has wreaked on them, forcing many of them into poverty and having to relinquish their livelihoods. Much of this distress is related to the current conflict in the Middle East that drove up fuel rates and fertilizer costs.

When you see the UFC at the White House, it’s more than contests of fisticuffs — it’s another distraction to keep American citizens bamboozled and unaware of how they are being misled and fed a lot of malarkey. We are sure to get a steady diet of it as we move closer and closer to the midterm elections.
