( SE, Queens ) Queens native and community activist Clyde Vanel will formally kick off his campaign for the District 27 City Council seat on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2pm at his new headquarters on Linden Blvd and 233rd Street .

“I represent a new generation of leaders with the energy and a fire in my belly to tackle the issues families and small businesses struggle with every day. I am prepared and ready to lead Southeast Queens in the City Council,” said attorney Clyde Vanel.

Mr. Vanel is a small business owner and attorney who was born in Queens and raised in Cambria Heights . He has garnered significant support throughout the District and reports show his committee, Friends of Clyde Vanel, has impressive campaign coffers.. A recent article in the Jamaica Times proclaims, “only one potential candidate – Clyde Vanel – would stand in his way,” – referring to incumbent Councilmember Leroy Comrie.

“These are tough economic times. Seniors on fixed incomes are being squeezed, as the price of milk, bread and heating costs skyrocket; families can’t make ends meet and homeowners are facing foreclosure; workers are losing their jobs and joining the unemployment line every day, and; mom and pop shops, the backbone of Queens’ economy, will not receive any bailout money as many prepare to close, or have closed, their doors. The residents of Southeast Queens can’t afford to keep someone in office who has not delivered real change after over 20 years in office. I am the right choice for District 27,” Mr. Vanel added.
