Fashion designer Karen Sabag is on the move up these days. Just before her show on February 15 at Hosfelt Gallery, she garnered the title of “Best in Show” in the Supima Runway show for emerging designers. Her award-winning bridal gown, made of Cotonfico Albini Marcello and poplin shirting, closed the show.
In December, she was a prestigious submission in the Viennese Opera Ball pre-fashion gala at the Austrian Consulate. Sabag presented her spectacular mask in tandem with an exquisite scarlet evening gown and opera cape. The mask, decorated with
pearls and Swarovski crystals, was one of many that were created especially for the Opera Ball’s online auction.
Sabag is quickly becoming a fashion designer who’s moving into the big leagues. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, she presented a fabulous winter ’09 collection in New York. She is recognized for her extraordinary evening looks and one-of-a-kind bridal gowns. For fall ’09,”the dance of nature” inspired her. Her clothes are the interpretation of moving trees in the forest and the juxtaposition of the movement of classical ballet dancers.
She uses the most luxurious fabrics including Solstice lace, chiffon, Chantilly lace and silk satins. Sabag embellishes her pieces with embroidery beading, appliques, ostrich feathers and Swarovski crystals. She is famous for her sultry corsetry that shows up throughout the collection. This line is simply a continuance of her signature style techniques.
On Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, N.Y., Karen has her own atelier. She caters to women who love glamour. Even in these uncertain times, Karen Sabag forges ahead with great enthusiasm and style.
