What are the two biggest reasons why New Yorkers don’t take advantage of the rich cultural offerings our town has to offer? Time and money. Now neither is a barrier for Amsterdam News readers: The Museum of the City of New York is generously offering readers of the Amsterdam News free entry to their powerful new exhibition, “America’s Mayor: John V. Lindsay and the Reinvention of New York,” now on view through October 3.
The show explores the administration of Lindsay, who guided the city from the mid-’60s through the mid-’70s, one of the city and nation’s most turbulent times. The show incorporates archival footage as well as vintage campaign and promotional materials (there’s even an old subway turnstile) to help transport the viewer back in time. Perhaps more than any other mayor, Lindsay engaged New York’s underclass and struggled to lift them out of the generational poverty so many others relegated them to.
To take advantage of this offer, simply bring your copy of the Amsterdam News with you to the museum and let them know that you are going to see the show. The show runs through October 3, so there is plenty of time to take advantage of this wonderful offer.
“America’s Mayor: John V. Lindsay and the Reinvention of New York” is now on view at the Museum of the City of New York, located at 1220 Fifth Avenue between 103rd and 104th streets. For more information, call (212) 534-1672 or visit www.mcny.org.
