Thousands walked and ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this past Sunday. Team Amsterdam News came out strong and met up with members of the Links and Harlem elected officials. Elite runners, survivors and their exuberant supporters flocked to Central Park to walk/run/race for the battle against breast cancer. It was a beautiful day–not a cloud in sight, and though rain was forecast, ne’er a drop fell from the sky, and over 25,000 women, men and children with hope in their hearts and energy in their stride marched on. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure brought out more than 25,000 runners and walkers– breast cancer survivors and their supporters–to Central Park on Sunday, September 14 for its annual run. An enthusiastic Amsterdam News team and the Links team are pictured here with Cong. Charles Rangel, State Sen. Bill Perkins and Robert Jackson. MCs for the day were CBS news
anchors Maurice Dubois and Dana Tyler. “What an absolutely extraordinary event!” proclaimed Dr. Dara P. Richardson-Heron, chief executive officer of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater New York City Affiliate and a 10-year breast cancer survivor. “The excitement and sense of community spirit was truly amazing: From the incredible rainbow of over 25,000 participants, survivors, celebrities and Komen staff proudly wearing their Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure T- shirts, to the fabulous volunteers cheering everyone on–all made me feel truly blessed to lead this wonderful organization and be a part of this special day.”
