Growing up on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, Veronique de la Cruz could not help but to adopt twin passions for high fashion and the ideal beach ensemble. “The island has a real sunbathing culture,” she recalled. “When you go to the beach in a bathing suit, it’s as if you are going to a party.”
As a young girl, she spent her time working and saving money to buy swimsuits. She would often mix and match or exchange swimsuits with her cousin. But even then, de la Cruz was never happy with the results. There was always something wrong with the suit, and she usually ended up modified it in some way. Her desire for the perfect suit pushed her into designing swimwear.
In 2006, she moved to Costa Rica where she launched her first swimwear company, V del Sol. Her designs for Aquarella, a fun and fashionable brand, were unveiled at Mercedes-Benz Swim Week 2011 in July 2010.
Newly appointed as its head designer, de la Cruz brings a sophisticated sexiness to Aquarella. Her looks are fun, fashionable and affordable. She gives the collection a luxurious look that makes any woman feel like she’s living the life of a beauty queen.
Her Resort 2011 collection is inspired by the cultures of the world. The line consists of a dozen styles, including triangle, halter and bandeau tops paired with sexy bikini bottoms and even a few monokinis.
Her assortment of colors, African patterns, stripes and paisley prints is fabulous. The collection also includes bold, original patterns and graphics, daring cuts and feminine silhouettes. With innovative style and sophistication, the collection combines couture-quality workmanship with superb comfort and fit.
The Aquarella Resort 2011 collection is indeed theatrical. Having grown up with, and currently living among, people who take swimwear fashion very seriously, de la Cruz developed a swimwear collection that is fresh and youthful. The suits’ retail prices range from $80-$150.
Aquarella swimwear is designed for the woman who is sexy, poised, sophisticated and lives for the moment!
