The exciting 2011 Kick Off of Harlem Week, the celebratory opening of the month-long event, starts tonight with exhilarating performances and celebrity appearances.
The event, which will be at 5:30 p.m. in Gracie Mansion on East End Avenue and 88th St., allows New York residents to celebrate Harlem’s history with David Allen Grier, who is presenting a 30th Anniversary award to WRKS “Kiss FM” radio station, and the cast of the hit Broadway show, “Baby It’s You,” who will provide entertainment.
Harlem Week will run this year from July 31 to August 30.
Since the summer of 1974, Harlem Week has been promoting and commemorating the Uptown neighborhood’s contributions to the arts, culture, civil rights, politics, religion and education.
