A New York Police Department traffic enforcement officer now has a street named after her after being killed on duty while crossing the street. Donnette Sanz, 33, who was seven months pregnant at the time, died days after being hit by van three years ago. Her son, Sean Michael Justin Sanz, was delivered by caesarean section but died days later as well.
The dedication of Donnette and Sean Sanz Place took place at the intersection of East 188th Street and Webster Avenue in the Bronx. This is the first time that a traffic officer has received a street dedication after being killed on duty, according to the NYPD Traffic Squad Benevolent Association. The street renaming was held on Aug. 15 at 1 p.m.
