Earlier this afternoon, it was revealed that 201 Mulberry St. in the Soho section of Manhattan would be a setting for royalty. Well, not exactly royalty, but many consider to be mainstream rap and pop royalty.
A pop-up store opened in the space on Mulberry Street and it’s now selling physical copies of the new Jay-Z and Kanye West album titled “Watch The Throne.” The store will be open from today until Sunday.
With a doorman set up in front of the building, the inside holds a mostly white space with the recent video for the Watch The Throne single “Otis” playing on a loop against the back wall. On the side wall hold images from the album’s artwork including the morphed animal/man faces of West and Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.
After you walk down a set of steps there’s a counter area where copies the album are being sold for $15 each. The duo, who have dubbed themselves “The Throne” for this album, are rumored to show up at any time this weekend. But until then, there’s another star inside.
The Maybach used in the Spike Jonze-directed “Otis” video is on display as soon as you walk in the space. The vehicle is being auctioned off with the proceeds going to help the drought situation in East Africa.
Accoridng to various reports, Watch The Throne is set to sell up to a half million copies in its first week. You can read the AmNews review of the album here.
