On Sept. 16, Urban Prep, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization geared toward improving the educational opportunities available to urban boys, will be hosting its fifth annual celebrity charity poker tournament, Aces UP! 2011.
Created in 2007, Chicago’s premier charity poker tournament brings out almost 400 players and spectators every year. Aces UP! is hosted by four self-professed poker experts: former Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Urban Prep founder and CEO Tim King; Chicago Sun-Times columnist and TV/radio personality Richard Roeper and former Chicago Bear Chris Zorich.
Funds raised at the games will go to Urban Prep academics. Last year, the event raised $100,000 in support of the Urban Prep Fellows Program, which gives recent college graduates an opportunity to support the development of Urban Prep students, and the UP To and Through College Program, which supports Urban Prep alumni during their college careers.
The event will take place at the River East Art Center, located at 435 E. Illinois St. in Chicago. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the tournament will begin at 6:30 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served during the event.
Tickets for the tournament are $250 for players and $100 for spectators. Early bird registration specials will be given to the first 100 registrants or up until Sept. 1, whichever comes first.
