Halloween will make your child scream (36132)

It has been my experience in life that it is a privilege to be chosen rather than left out. Often being left out can cause you to feel worthless and not part of the team’s effort. Well, today, I would like to lift some of the burden for those who have been gifted and, in fact, left in because they are left-handed.

Did you know that the following persons who reached great success in life were left-handed?

  • Ramses the Great (1302-1213 B.C.). A great pharaoh of Egypt for 67 years.
  • Alexander the Great (356-323 B.C.). A great warrior and statesman.
  • Julius Caesar (100-44 B.C.) Roman ruler and lieutenant governor of Spain.
  • Michelangelo (1475-1564). A great artist and inventive genius.
  • Joan of Arc (1412-1431). A French military commander.
  • Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). The greatest mind in Western civilization.
  • Isaac Newton (1643-1727). A famous scientist.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). The greatest conqueror in modern history.
  • Beethoven (1770-1827). A composer of musical works.
  • Queen Victoria (1819-1901). Inherited the British throne at age 18.
  • Lewis Carroll (1832-1898). Author of “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.”
  • Mark Twain (1835-1910). One of America’s greatest authors.
  • Henry Ford (1863-1947). Inventor of the Ford Model T.
  • Marie Curie (1867-1934). A Nobel Prize winner in chemistry and physics.
  • Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948). The great leader of Indian nonviolence who influenced Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Charlie Chaplin (1889-1927). An outstanding classic comedian.
  • Babe Ruth (1895-1948). An outstanding athlete who hit the most home runs.
  • Alan Turing (1912-1954). A mathematical genius.
  • Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970). The greatest guitarist of all time.
  • Paul McCartney (b. 1942). Penned more No. 1 hits (50) than any other songwriter in history.
  • Bill Gates (b. 1955). Inventor of Microsoft Windows.
  • Left-handed presidents of the United States:
  • Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, William Clinton and Barack Obama.

If you are left-handed and feel left out, remember there is hope that you may become famous-but not necessarily rich.

Oh! I almost forgot my dearest friend, Alan Morton, who was an extremely bright mathematician who attended Yale University and, by the way, was my best man when I married-he was also left-handed and was not left out.

Information concerning left-handed people was supplied by the book “A Left-Handed History of the World,” by Ed Wright, published by Fall River Press.
