City Council Speaker Christine Quinn is calling on Mayor Michael Bloomberg to discontinue finger imaging as a requirement of the food stamp application process.

Quinn and Council Member Annabel Palma, along with other elected officials and organizations, held a press conference Oct. 11 on the steps of City Hall to announce the introduction of a bill requiring the Human Resources Administration to report money spent on imaging and the number of fraudulent cases referred for criminal prosecution.

In 2010, the Obama administration called finger imaging a barrier to food stamp programs that was not cost-effective.
