Nonito Donaire scores a big win (40006)

The judges were all in agreement. The hard-punching Nonito Donaire scored a unanimous 12-round win over Omar Andres Narvaez to capture the WBC and WBO World Bantamweight titles.

The fight, held at the Madison Square Garden Theater, saw a virtually sold-out crowd for the eight-bout event that ended past the bewitching hour of midnight. Not a soul left as the crowd enjoyed the completed areas of the Garden, which is still banging away at completion.

And it was Donaire who was banging away against his opponent, Narvaez, who came all the way from Argentina to get his butt kicked. But it was still a fairly competitive fight.

The crowd was anchored by a decision-winning Tommy Rainone from Long Island City, who brought along virtually a whole section of fans to watch his six-round decision over Brad Jackson from Denver. The fight card was promoted by Bob Arum.
