The Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Harlem has been sold. The church, located between 126th and 127th streets and 5th Avenue, was sold for 2,775,000 to Ugo Rodinone, a Swiss artist and sculptor.
The Mount Moriah Church is to be converted into a cultural center and community facility. Eastern Consolidated Director Louis Ricci, who represented the seller, Merker Realty Corp., said, “Although we received multiple inquiries from a wide variety of users about this property, only a handful of residential developers expressed interest, even though zoning allows accommodation of a residential building of up to 33,000 square feet.”
The church has been a historical part of Harlem, and the buyer is keeping the people of Harlem in mind in creating this center. Ricci said Rodinone’s center will “benefit the local community.”
