The Fordham University Rams scored a 54-53 win over the visiting Pirates from Hampton University in Virginia. Hampton had played the night before at Madison Square Garden, scoring a 71-53 win over Howard University.
The Rams were led by Chris Gaston, the junior from Palisades Park, N.J., who scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for the 3-3 Rams, who played Manhattan last night (Wednesday).
Manhattan’s top gun is George Beamon, a junior averaging 16.1 points per game and 5.0 rebounds. The 6-foot-4, 170-pound Beamon hails from Roslyn, N.Y.
Manhattan (5-4) was coming off a two-game winning streak. Hampton, out of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), played at American University last night (Wednesday) and was 3-5 prior to the game.
