The Metro Manhattan Chapter of the Links and the Alpha Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity held its annual oratorical “Young Achievers” competition, where seven young African-American and Latino men competed on the topic: “Beyond the Rhetoric–Health Care for All Americans: Entitlement of Privilege.”

The competition was held Feb. 28 at Harlem Hospital Center, and the Young Achiever oratorical winner was Vaughn Mesquita. A cash prize will be awarded to Vaughn at the Metro Manhattan Links’ yearly celebration in June.

The two organizations have joined hands to hold this competition for the past several years as part of mentoring program to encourage male minority high school students to go college.
