Olanike Alabi confirmed her run for the 57th district as the New York State Assembly for 2012. Alabi plans to step in to take the place of Assemblyman Hakeem Jefferies, who recently announced his run for congress.

Alabi has served the 57th district as the Democratic State Committeewomen and District Leader since 2006. Currently, Alabi is employed at 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. She has previously worked at the Community Board 2 and as the District Manager for the New York City Council for several years.

As reported in the AM News August 2010, “Alabi, as member of the state committee, has been sponsoring forums and building coalitions to improve services to her community.”

If elected, Alabi said in a press release that her main focal points will be healthcare, education, and housing.
