When you visit Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Off Shore Island, Sandals Cay, “All you need is love,” according to Rupert Missick, Public Relations Manager at this luxurious hotel that caters specifically to couples. Sandals has hotels in other locations for families and people with children, but for couples, this location in Nassau is an alluring sanctuary.

It’s the place that attracted the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, who made this hot spot the epicenter for high society as the famed Balmoral Club in the 1940s. Today, their historic house of love has been transformed into the Sandals Royal Bahamian Hotel.

Incorporating a world-famous, fabulous Red Lane(r) Spa, the hotel remains an oasis of European grandeur, where guest couples are still treated as royals. It’s such a romantic sanctuary that the readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine voted the Royal Bahamian Hotel the most elegant resort in the Bahamas.

The seductive alabaster sand beaches and crystalline waters are enhanced with tropical gardens and opulent suites. Some suites are the size of private villas, and they come complete with amazing amenities–even your own butler.

The spa treatments are most enjoyable. There are three spas: Zen Spa, Day Spa and Main Spa, which is now being renovated and will be ready by May 1. The spa experience begins in the first building right off the street, near Cable Beach. It offers a relaxing atmosphere with a scent of lemon; even if you don’t check into the hotel, you can enjoy a massage, manicure, pedicure, skin care, facial, makeup application and hair services.

Signature treatments include a complimentary face mapping analysis that takes the guesswork out of getting results. Not only will your skin therapist diagnose your skin’s concerns, she will prescribe the ideal service, along with a home care regimen to achieve your optimum skin health.

There are also teen treatments (60 minutes for $100), customized skin treatments that include deep cleansing followed by exfoliation and a purifying masque that will banish breakouts. The skin therapist will include some great skin-care tips that will help teens understand their skin and give them a clean start.

For sunburns, they offer a sunburn rescue treatment of aloe and a mist that helps with sensitivity, dehydration and prevents damage to skin. A Bahamian, Eloyse Smith, weaves and sells stylish straw goods (hats, bags, placemats) and jewelry by one of the posh pools.

Included in the room fee, couples may experience 10 restaurants, 10 bars and eight pools. It’s a no-tip resort; gratuities are also included.

Your room rate also encompasses a complimentary shuttle boat ride (leaving every hour) to Sandals Key, a sumptuous 7.25 acre island that boasts a beautiful beach, restaurant, romantic places and two swings. Here, you will find their private Zen Garden Spa, featuring lovely huts for two that overlook the ocean. From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Zen Garden Spa offers massages, body wraps and body scrubs by Janae Clarle and Racheal Cartright.

All spa patrons may take full advantage of their showers, saunas and relaxation areas before and after treatment. You have a choice to go bare or wear swimsuits or undergarments during your treatments–Sandals wants you to be completely comfortable. They will provide disposable undergarments if you prefer and also provide lockers. For your journey to serenity, start at www.sandals.com.
