The Greater New York Links Health & Wellness Facet partnered with Abyssinian Development Corporation Senior Services NORC, Steinway Children and Family Services Esplanade Gardens NORC, Health Advocates for Older Persons, Center Light, Health Care Inc., the Alzheimer’s Association of New York City, Brookdale Center for Aging-Hunter College, AARP and the Institute for Puerto Rican Hispanic Elderly to conduct an educational forum on dementia and Alzheimer’s. The event, held for 100 seniors, was sponsored by AARP at NYU Medical School in East Harlem.
The “Invigorating Exercise for Wellness” session’s instructor shared information about the importance of consistent exercise to stimulate the brain and showed the participants how to exercise.
Panelists included Dr. Jennifer Manly, associate professor in neuropsychology in neurology at the Sergievbsky Center and the Taub Institute, Columbia University; Paula Rice, manager of African-American outreach for the Alzheimer’s Association of New York City; Licet Valois, of the MPS Center for Brain Aging at New York University Langone Medical Center; and Matt Kudish, director of education, outreach and caregiver services for the Alzheimer’s Association of New York City.
Manly ended the forum with a special message of encouragement and hope for fighting this deadly, devastating disease that occurs more and more as we grow older and live longer.
