Virginia State University has sent a total of five student-athletes to the 2012 NCAA Track & Field Championships at Colorado State in Pueblo, Colo., taking place Thursday, May 24 through Saturday, May 26.

The Lady Trojans’ Taylor-Ashley Bean (a freshman from Sandys, Bermuda) and Sierra Clayton (a senior from Chesapeake, Va.) are both running in the women’s 800-meter event. Bean ran a personal best time of 2:10.53 at the VA Tech-Roanoke College Twilight on May 10. Clayton also ran her personal best time of 2:10.67 at the VA Tech-Roanoke College Twilight.

Samantha Edwards (a senior from Elmont, N.Y.) will look to add to her previously earned five All-American honors by competing in the women’s 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Edwards ran a personal best time of 23.80 in the 200-meter dash at the Norfolk State Relays on April 14. She ran her best time in the 400-meter dash at the CIAA Outdoor Championships on April 20 with a time of 52.15.

Prince Owusu-Mensah (a freshman from Arlington, Va.) will compete in the men’s 800-meter run. Owusu-Mensah ran a personal best time of 1:50.88 at the Aggie Classic on May 13.

Daniel Ross (a junior from Baltimore, Md.) won the men’s 400-meter hurdle event at the 2012 CIAA Outdoor Championships on April 20 with a time of 51.70, also a personal best.
