Rodney King, internationally known for being the victim of an incident of police brutality involving the Los Angeles Police Department died this past weekend at the age of 47.

Rodney King was found dead in a swimming pool yesterday in Rialto California police said. King was found by his fiancee, Cynthia Kelley while a small gathering was occurring at their home.

King became internationally known because a man videotaped him being beaten by the police. The tape was then released by several news stations that then sparked the riots that brought awareness to racism, police brutality and other social inequalities.

King was recently in Harlem at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture promoting his new book, “The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption”, a couple of months ago.
