At Exodus 28 Two, the Nevis Collection’s look is understated elegance. Designer Tameisha Powell wants her bridal gowns to be simply shaped yet sophisticated. “I want my bridal gowns to exude confidence,” she explained.

Born in St. Maarten, she moved to New York at the age of 9. At this early age, she was fascinated with fashion. In town, there was a boutique owner who taught her how to sketch. This lady had a dramatic effect on her, and from that moment on, Powell has been sketching and designing. She created her own prom dress, and little did she know, that dress would be the start of her fashion career. Everyone loved it, and she developed a customer base. Many of her friends requested that she make their prom dresses.

The bridal collection Nevis is named after her hometown in St. Maarten. Her debut bridal collection was shown at Pier 92 last October. The wedding dresses are minimal in design. “My designs are not trendsetting, they are classic and regal,” she explained. She uses drapery, beading, chantilly lace and some metallic fabrics. Many of the gowns offer a mermaid shape with a feminine flower element.

Powell is an FIT graduate. Her intern position at Jenny Woo Bridal inspired her to become a bridal gown designer. Powell’s view of a modern bride is a mainstay classic look. Her design inspiration comes from first lady Michelle Obama and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. They are two self-assured women.

Designer Sherri Hill will launch her spring 2013 collection, “Evening by Sherri Hill,” with a runway show at Trump Tower on Sept. 7 during New York’s upcoming Fashion Week.

Hill’s exclusive custom collections epitomize the fashionable lifestyle of today’s contemporary women. Each look is designed to seamlessly enhance and fit the female form. Her styles are fashion-forward and wearable. From award-winning red-carpet moments as the exclusive designer for Miranda Lambert at the 2010 Country Music Awards to clothing Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Kellie Pickler and others, Hill’s designs are created and made to the highest standards.

Hill is meticulous when it comes to details. Her talents were crafted and honed in the best couturier houses and while working with customers with wonderful wardrobes. In 2008, Hill expanded her global brand with the launch of her own design house. In addition to corporate headquarters in her home state of Oklahoma, the designer maintains a design studio and showroom in a suite on New York’s Fifth Avenue. Hill’s collection is available at www.sherrihill.com and at fine specialty and department stores and Internet retailers.
