On Sept. 22, the Bronx borough president is holding a borough-wide initiative after a 2-month-old baby was grazed by a stray bullet in Hunts Point and a man was killed at a gas station, it was announced on Sept. 6.

The annual “Peace in our Streets” initiative is in conjunction with the Bronx Clergy Task Force, the Forest Houses Tenant Council, Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers and the Bronx Community Board 3. The event will take place at 12:30 p.m. and community outreach will take place from 1-4 p.m. at the Forest Houses Community Center, 955 Tinton Ave., between East 163rd and East 165th streets.

“Ending gun violence has been a top priority of mine and I know it is a national problem,” Diaz said. “We must all unite in putting an end to this senseless violence so we can better prevent these crimes and protect innocent people across our city and nation.” For more information on the event or to find out how to volunteer, call 718-590-6001 or email tmcdermott@bronxbp.nyc.gov.
