New York City District Women's Home & Overseas Missionary Society (38508)

The New York City District Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church held its first Quarterly Mass Meeting at the mother AME Zion Church in Harlem.

The group is the oldest and largest lay organization of the denomination.

A spotlight was cast on the importance and protocol of voting in the recent New York City primary and the upcoming general election by Chyann Sapp, youth voter coordinator of the NYC Campaign Finance Board, who facilitated the workshop “Voter Information: Making It Happen.”

Sapp presented material and shared information to guide each potential and registered voter to making their votes count. A Q&A period opened the floor for a series of voter scenarios and concerns which were expertly addressed by the presenter. This timely workshop was wonderfully received by the audience, which gave enthusiastic applause to this prodigious facilitator

Helping to guide the meeting were (seated, from left) Chyann Sapp, the Rev. A. Alfred Carson and Ruth Stevenson. They were joined at the gathering by other pastors and members of the society. (Gideon Manasseh photo)
