Come Wednesday, Dec. 4, Dr. Roscoe C. Brown Jr. will receive the National Football Foundation’s highest honor, the NFF Gold Medal. The former president of Bronx Community College has a distinguished resume that also includes marathon running, football coaching and hosting CUNY broadcasts. What’s more, he is known worldwide as one of the Tuskegee Airmen, and was honored along with a number of his colleagues from that period at the White House a few years ago.
Steve Hatchell, NFF president and CEO, said, “By any measure, Roscoe Brown is a giant. His sense of patriotism led him to serve in the military despite racial obstacles, and he created a legacy of heroism during World War II that will inspire us for generations to come. His courage and tenacity in combat was just the beginning.”
