Kulture Kritic reports:

Delegate Charniele Herring was elected Saturday to be the next Virginia party chair, making her the first ever African American to serve in that role.

Herring, a House of Delegates member from Alexandria, was elected to the General Assembly in January 2009, in a special election to fill a vacated spot in the 46th House District.

Herring was endorsed by current party chair Brian Moran and Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate.
