SoBRO Pillars of the Bronx–a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life in the South Bronx by strengthening businesses and creating innovative economic, housing, educational and career development programs for youth and adults–held its 40th anniversary in Grand Hyatt New York’s Empire Ballroom in Midtown Manhattan.

This year, honorees included Pride of the Bronx – David C. Banks, president and CEO, the Eagle Academy Foundation; Best of the Bronx – Bob Simon, CBS News “60 Minutes” correspondent; Pillar of the Bronx – Pat Simone, founder, Simone Development Companies; Spirit of the Bronx – Roscoe C. Brown Jr., Tuskegee Airman and former president, Bronx Community College; and Corporate Founder Award – Citi, corporate honoree. Master of ceremonies was Bill Evans, senior meteorologist, Eyewitness News WABC-TV.

SoBRO’s four essentials are adult education and career development; youth education and development; community and economic renewal; and housing and real estate development.
