As the identities of the victims from Friday’s school massacre are discovered, reports indicate that the daughter of jazz saxophonist Jimmy Greene was among those killed during the rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Greene’s daughter, Ana Maquez-Greene, 6, was one of the first of the 20 children identified. She attended the school with her older brother who was not harmed.
The family moved to Connecticut from Canada in July. Ana and her and brother reportedly started school at Sandy Hook Elementary this fall.
A vigil for Ana was held at Whyte Ridge Baptist Community Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where the family attended while living in that area.
Pianist Christian Sands expressed his sorrow and sympathy for Greene and his family on Twitter.
“My prayers and heart go out to my brother, Mr. Jimmy Greene. Your loss cannot be compared. I’m praying for you and your family,” he said.
