“Django Unchained” surpassed the $100 million-mark at the box office, and now Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and the cast are on a worldwide tour of premieres. Starting out on Jan. 4 in Rome, Kerry Washington made quite the fashion statement. From Rome, the group jetted to Paris, where the “Scandal” star wore a Rochas dress and Nicholas Kirkwood shoes. It was on to Berlin from there, where Washington donned a Louis Vuitton beige and white color-blocked dress and headband, along with Christian Louboutin shoes.
Oprah Winfrey’s OWN is expanding its programming slate once again. According to reports, the Discovery-owned cable network announced four new original series centered on comedienne Kym Whitley, a mobster-turned-dog groomer and the transformation of an underperforming New Orleans high school. The new entries will join Tyler Perry’s previously announced hour-long drama “The Haves and Have Nots” and half-hour comedy “Love Thy Neighbor,” which are set to premiere May 29.
On Jan. 3 in New York City, VH1, Monami Entertainment and NFGTV celebrated the third season of the hit series “Love & Hip Hop,” with a private bash at the Meatpacking District lounge Kiss & Fly. Dressed to the nines, cast members hit the red carpet, including Yandy Smith, Joe Budden (with girlfriend Kaylin Garcia), Tahiry Jose, Erica Mena, Rich Dollaz, Consequence, Jen the Pen, Raqi Thunda, Lore’l, Winter Ramos and Rashidah Ali. Over 400 guests packed the venue to get a preview of the premiere episode, which was followed by a Q&A.
Allhiphop.com is reporting that “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj is slated to ink a deal this week that will create a new line of fashion, accessories and houseware for a massive retailer such as K-Mart, Wal-Mart or Target. While details are limited, the raptress will at least end up with her own line of clothing thanks to a deal negotiated by industry veteran Charles Koppelman.
Congratulations are in order for “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes, after her ex-husband Gregg Leakes proposed to her on New Year’s Eve. Gregg Leakes pulled out all the stops, first treating her to a romantic dinner. Back at their beach condo, NeNe Leakes was greeted with rose petals and candles that led to their bedroom, and on the bed, she found a set of Hershey Kisses that were formed in the shape of a huge heart. There was also champagne and strawberries on the coffee table with another set of Hershey Kisses that formed the letters “G” and “N.” Then Gregg Leakes reportedly proposed; she later tweeted: “My answer was yes!”
