This week, the City Council will vote on a bill that would lower the penalty for street vendors who violate city codes. The proposed bill would create a package of bills that would include capping penalties at $500. Some of the fine reductions for blocking sidewalks would decrease from $1,000 to $500 if the bill is passed. Street vendors around City Hall have displayed signs calling on Quinn to do something about the hefty fines that many say are too costly for minor offenses.
