The homeless population in New York City is at a record high, according to a new report released by the Coalition for the Homeless. The report alleges that the rise in the homeless population is due to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s homeless policy initiatives. According to the report, released on March 5, 21,000 children sleep in homeless shelters every night. The report also finds that the number of people staying in emergency shelters increased by 61 percent since Mayor Michael Bloomberg took office in 2002.
