On April 9, a coalition of advocates gathered on the steps of City Hall to voice their support for comprehensive policy reform to end chronic homelessness. One of the main goals of the coalition is to put homelessness on the political radar of the next New York City mayor. According to United to End Homelessness, 57,000 people sleep in homeless shelters or on the streets every night.

The coalition includes the Rev. Calvin Butts of Abyssinian Church and over 100 organizations, according to United to End Homelessness. The coalition’s 2013 platform proposes investing in supportive housing, improving housing assistance and creating more affordable housing for low-income earners in New York City.
