While Hurricane Sandy hit New York hard more than five months ago groups like The Rockaway Youth Task Force (RYTF) have made it clear that there is still work to be done. RYTF is calling for volunteers to assist them in helping clean up the streets of the Far Rockaway community, on April 20.

According to their website, RTYF seeks to “spark social change” in the Rockaways as well as provide opportunities for youth to be “productive citizens” of their community. The group was founded nearly two years before Hurricane Sandy, but they were especially responsive in the wake of the storm, collecting goods and supplies to deliver to more than 300 Rockaway families.

With their latest “Clean the Rock, Clean the Block” initiative, RYTF will provide brooms and trash bags to all volunteers as they take the streets of the Rockaways. They welcome people of all ages as well as students who wish to receive community service hours.

Volunteers will meet on April 20th (or if it rains, April 27th) at 1 PM in front of the Beach 60th A and H subway stop.
