In a record-setting time of 27.23, Leonard Patrick Komon from Kenya won the ninth UAE (United Arab Emirates) Healthy Kidney 10K. It was Komon’s second win in the growing UAE 10K, which benefits the National Kidney Foundation.

Some 5,851 runners (3,128 males and 2,723 females) ran in the race. The race, named in honor of late UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, promotes education and awareness of kidney health through its support of the National Kidney Foundation.

Komon won a total $45,000 that included a bonus for setting a new UAE 10K course record.

Stephen Sambu (Kenya) and Moses Kipsiro (Uganda) crossed the finish line in a photo finish (28.02) for second and third place. Aziza Allyu won her third UAB women’s championship (34.34), trailed by Hirut Beyene Guangui (34.50). Tigist Tufe Demisse (35.26) finished third.
